The Starling Mite.

May be found inside or occur in industrial sites when birds such as starlings, Indian Mynahs and pigeons nest in roofs, around air conditioning units or roof cavities.

These mites often cause temporary irritation to staff and occupants present at the industrial sites.

The Food Mite.

These mites are found in stored food product and if the infestation is bad enough can cause food product to be rejected.

The Straw Itch Mite.

This mite occurs in straw in storage as well as attacking timber and grain storage. It does not cause discomfort on the human body for long as it prefers other more desirable environments.

Fair people are more susceptible to attack by this mite and a rash may develop.

The Grass Itch Mite.

Found in Sydney and surrounding areas during the summer months and when feeding attaches itself to the skin of the host, and in humans causes inflamed swellings that itch for some days.

Control Of Mites

Treatment of areas infested in offices, warehouses and factory production areas is often necessary by using an approved insecticide.

Improvements in housekeeping and warehouse storage procedures in industrial complexes will go a long way in preventing the build up of mite infestations in these areas.
